AND FINALLY, THE PORCHES IN QUESTION ARE TOWARD THE REAR OF THE STRUCTURE AND ABOVE THE EYE LEVEL PEDESTRIANS AND VERY UNLIKELY TO BE SEEN FROM THE RIGHT OF WAY AT ALL.

THERE WAS AS INDICATED, IT WAS A ONE STORY PORCH THAT LED, I THINK, FOR THE MAIDS AND HELPERS AND WORKERS. SO THE PROPERTY THERE WAS ALSO A DOUBLE GALLERY IN THE BACK.

AND SO WE HAD OBTAINED PERMISSION FROM THE LANDMARK COMMISSION TO CONNECT THE TWO PORCHES AND HAVE ONE WRAPAROUND PORCH, WHICH WE THOUGHT WAS A GREAT IDEA.

THE ROOF LINES OVER THESE PORCHES ARE ORIGINAL TO THE HOUSE IN THAT AREA.

SO YOU'LL SEE IN THIS PICTURE THE HOUSE ORIGINALLY HAS A DOUBLE GALLERY IN THE BACK.

WHEN WE PURCHASED THE PROPERTY, THE UPSTAIRS PORCH WAS HALF COVERED BY A BATHROOM THAT WAS DONE IN THE 50S AND WE RESTORED THAT AREA BY OPENING THE PORCHES BACK UP AND RETURNING IT BACK TO WHAT IT WAS.

AND THE SECOND HALF OF THE PORCH UPSTAIRS HAS ITS ORIGINAL DECKING AND IT'S STILL HOLDING BEAUTIFULLY.

BUT AS YOU KNOW, THAT SCALE OF DECKING DOES NOT MATCH WHAT'S CURRENTLY AVAILABLE FOR PRESSURE TREATED.

SO THE ALSO THE DIFFERENT THING WE DID WAS WE ADDED WE RETURNED THE STAIRCASE TO THE PROPERTY, WHICH WAS THERE ORIGINALLY AND WASN'T THERE WHEN WE PURCHASED THE HOUSE.

SO THAT MEANT WE HAD TO RECREATE THE WHOLE PORCH BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE AN OVERHANG AS YOU WENT TO THE STAIRS, THAT PORCH WAS PRESSURE TREATED WOOD AND IT LASTED ABOUT TWO YEARS.

IT JUST FELL APART.

SO THEN WE WENT AND PURCHASED SOME RECLAIMED LUMBER AND REBUILT THE WHOLE PORCH AGAIN.

THAT WAS THREE YEARS AGO.

AND THEN YOU CAN SEE FROM YOUR PICTURES IT IS IN STRUCTURAL FAIL.

SO WE ACTUALLY HAD TO GO AHEAD AND DEMO THE PORCH BECAUSE YOU CAN'T WALK ON IT ANYWAY.

YOU'D FALL THROUGH. SO OUR OPTIONS ARE TO CONTINUE TO DO THIS EVERY 2 OR 3 YEARS, WHICH GETS EXPENSIVE, OR JUST TAKE THE PORCH DOWN AND RESTORE IT TO WHAT IT WAS, WHICH WAS JUST A WALK THROUGH TO FOR THE HELP.

SO I DID AN EXTENSIVE RESEARCH BECAUSE THERE HAD TO BE SOME OTHER OPTION OUT THERE.

I KNOW THAT YOU CURRENTLY ALLOW ANOTHER PRODUCT FOR HISTORIC RESIDENCES, BUT THAT PRODUCT HAS A PREDETERMINED COLOR TO IT.

THIS PRODUCT IS SIMILAR IN THAT IT ALLOWS IT IS SYNTHETIC, BUT IT'S A PVC EXTRUSION WITH A 6% PULP TO IT, WHICH IS DIFFERENT THAN A POLYMER EXTRUSION.

IT DOESN'T WARP, IT DOESN'T TWIST, IT DOESN'T CUP, IT DOESN'T DO ANY OF THOSE.

WELL, I LIKE THE SOUND OF THAT, BUT I WANTED TO DIG A LITTLE DEEPER TO MAKE SURE THIS WOULD BE A GOOD PRODUCT TO USE.

THEY'VE HAD IT ON THERE SINCE, 08, 15 YEARS AND ALL THEY DO IS MOP IT WITH MURPHY'S OIL SOAP, WHICH I LOVE THE SOUND OF THAT THIS IS THE ONLY PRODUCT THAT CAN BE PAINTED.

NOTHING IN THE OTHER PRODUCTS TO DATE CAN BE PAINTED TO MATCH.

SO WHAT THAT MEANS TO ME IS HERE IS WHAT WE HAVE ON THE PORCH RIGHT NOW.
