Consider for action a Resolution of the City Council of the City of Galveston, Texas, respectfully requesting Galveston's Legislative Delegation to review and amend the "Texas Penal Code," Chapter 47 "Gambling", Section 47.01 "Definitions" as it pertains to gambling devices; urging the State Legislature to amend the definition of gambling device to that which was in place prior to 1993; directing the City Secretary to send a copy of this Resolution to Hon. Joan Huffman, Hon. Mike Jackson and the Hon. Craig Eiland; providing for findings of fact and providing for an effective date.
Consider for action a Resolution of the City of Galveston suspending the August 6, 2010 effective date of Centerpoint Energy Houston Electric LLC's requested rate change to permit the City time to study the request and to establish reasonable rates; approving cooperation with the Gulf Coast Coalition of Cities; hiring Lloyd Gosselink attorneys and consulting services to negotiate with the company and direct any necessary litigation and appeals; finding that the meeting at which this Resolution is passed is open to the public as required by law; requiring notice of this Resolution to the Company and legal counsel.
